WHY AUTUMN FERNS?

Autumn Fern is an excellent choice for shady areas where you want dependable color and texture. Unlike many flowering plants, these ferns provide attractive foliage for a long season and work beautifully in woodland gardens, foundation beds, under trees, along shaded walkways, and in mass plantings.

PLANTING & CARE

Light: Partial shade to full shade. Morning sun is generally fine, but protect plants from intense afternoon sun, especially in warmer climates.

Soil: Plant in moist, well-draining soil rich in organic matter.

Planting: Plant the roots into prepared soil with the crown—the point where the foliage emerges—at or just slightly above soil level. Do not bury the crown deeply.

Spacing: Approximately 18–24 inches apart for individual specimens. They can be planted somewhat closer when creating a fuller mass planting.

Watering: Water thoroughly immediately after planting. Keep the soil consistently moist while the plants establish. Once established, Autumn Ferns are fairly easy to maintain but perform best when the soil isn't allowed to become extremely dry.

Mulch: Apply a light layer of mulch around the plants to conserve moisture and protect the roots. Keep heavy mulch away from the crown.

AFTER SHIPPING

Bare-root plants can look different from established nursery plants when they arrive. Some foliage may be trimmed or show shipping stress. This is normal.

Plant your ferns as soon as possible after arrival and water them thoroughly. The important part is establishing the root system. Fresh growth will emerge as the plants settle into their new location.
