Create a beautiful, low-maintenance landscape with Dwarf Mondo Grass (Ophiopogon japonicus ‘Nana’) — a compact evergreen groundcover that's perfect for shady areas, borders, walkways, under trees and between pavers.
HOW TO PLANT

UNPACK
Open your package as soon as possible after delivery. Remove the plants from the packaging and inspect the roots.
KEEP ROOTS MOIST
If you cannot plant immediately, keep the roots slightly moist and store the plants in a cool, shaded location. Do not allow the roots to dry completely or leave them submerged in water.
PREPARE THE SOIL
Remove weeds and existing grass from the planting area. Loosen the soil so the roots can establish easily. Dwarf Mondo prefers well-drained soil.
PLANT
Dig a small hole large enough for the roots. Place the roots downward into the soil and position the crown—the area where the roots meet the green foliage—at approximately soil level.

Do not bury the crown too deeply.

Gently firm the soil around each plant.

SPACING
Choose your spacing based on how quickly you want the area to fill in.

• 4–6 inches apart — Faster, denser coverage
• 6–8 inches apart — Economical spacing for larger areas
• Wider spacing — More coverage initially, but additional time will be needed for the plants to fill in

Dwarf Mondo spreads naturally over time through underground runners.

WATER
Water thoroughly immediately after planting.

Keep the soil consistently moist while the plants are becoming established, especially during hot or dry weather. Avoid keeping the soil constantly saturated.

Once established, Dwarf Mondo generally requires less frequent watering.

LIGHT REQUIREMENTS

Dwarf Mondo performs especially well in:

• Partial shade
• Filtered sunlight
• Areas beneath trees
• Shaded landscape beds
• Morning sun with afternoon shade

It can tolerate varying light conditions, but protection from intense afternoon sun can be beneficial in very hot climates.

It forms a low-growing, grass-like evergreen ground cover and gradually spreads to create a fuller appearance.

IMPORTANT SHIPPING NOTE

Bare-root plants can experience temporary yellowing, wilting, bent foliage, or cosmetic leaf damage during shipping. This does not necessarily mean the plant is unhealthy.

The roots and crown are the most important parts of the plant. After planting, watering and establishing, new growth can emerge as the plant settles into its new location.

Approximate coverage when planted on a grid:

4" spacing: approximately 70 sq. ft.
6" spacing: approximately 155 sq. ft.

Coverage is approximate and will vary depending on your planting pattern and spacing.

Plant closer together for a fuller appearance sooner, or space farther apart when covering a larger area and allowing the plants more time to fill in.

WHAT IS A BIB?

A bib is an individual division of Dwarf Mondo Grass with its own roots and foliage.

These are bare-root plants — not 250 finished potted plants.

Plants are separated and prepared for shipping and may have trimmed foliage or roots depending on the season. Once planted and established, they will begin producing new growth and gradually fill the planting area.

A GREAT SIZE FOR LANDSCAPE PROJECTS

The 250-bib pack is ideal when 100 plants aren't quite enough but your project doesn't require a full 500-bib bulk pack.
